Shame this place isn't good. We tried it 3 times and each time the food is both bland and greasy , weird combination. I got a veggie omelet that tasted like it was cooked in bacon grease or a pan that had it in it before Also very rude either manager or owner , older lady talking to a worker about another worker saying " she is pretty but sure us stupid" , she said this in front of us as customers. What the heck? So let's recap ;bad food , bad service and for the trifecta bad environment. I won't be back again . I suggest the mcdonalds next door as an alternative. At least you won't have to hear the bickering.

Wow, there was nothing redeeming about this restaurant. Not sure how they are still in business. The dining area was in dire need of refurbishing. I couldn't tell if everything was dirty or just really old, but it wasn't a very inviting atmosphere. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, yet we stood there like idiots for what seemed like an eternity before we were seated. We tried two different omelettes, which turned out to be the two worst omelettes ever. The hash-browns weren't much better, but compared to the slimy yet mealy corn muffin, they were awesome. This may be the first time I've ever pined for a Denny's.

Good food & large portions. Easy on & easy off the freeway. I also liked the fact they had an electric car charging station at the restaurant. The waiter & service was excellent.

It looks like this place hasn't gotten a lot of great reviews. I have to say for a weary traveler just looking for a good place to stop and eat, this place was perfect! The young man who was our waiter was terrific! He was zipping here and there to help get our stuff, checked on us several times, and was courteous to everyone he came in contact with. I was really impressed. To eat we had the salad bar. It was so okay. Just iceberg lettuce, but I'll take it! The beef stroganoff was cooked to perfect. Tender noodles, creamy sauce, and perfect warm temperature for it being cold outside. But it could have used a little more seasoning of some kind. The quesadilla was great! Big serving for just an appetizer. And the kids hamburger was amazing! Really big for a kids meal, and sooo good. I had take a bite from my son's plate. This place may not be perfect. But it's a lot better than any of the fast better restaurants you're going to find down the street. So come have a cup of coffee, and don't forget there's free ice cream afterward for the whole family!!!

We rely on yelp quite a bit and feel as though the reviews are spot on. After seeing all the negative reviews, then reading svetlanas positive review we decided to give this place a try. Really wish we had paid attention to the true reviews as this was not good at all! Our breakfast was so greasy! Our hash browns were cold and greasy. Our bacon did not come in strips, but broken pieces of bacon. Bisquits and gravy was tasteless. Pancake was cold and butter did not melt. Our waitress never came to ask how our food was. And she never even asked after she saw we had not eaten much of our breakfast, In fact we normally would not have eaten this food, but we had been on the road and were very hungry. Mistake.

Ate dinner here, and found that the portions were huge. It's probably dangerous to tout comfort foods such as the meatloaf that I ordered as a specialty when everyone likes Mom's the best; however no matter what you like this stuff was not really up to par. Came covered in some really gross gravy and canned peas & carrots. The meatloaf itself was likely cooked there in the restaurant. The mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables sure looked like they were straight out of the can from Sysco. The guy who served me was the only employee on duty as a server, and was stretched really thin. However he was very interactive and tried to check back with everyone often. One big plus if you drive an electric car: out back there are chargers for both Teslas and standard NEMA 220V cars. In short, bleh...

We have to visit the area several times a year due to family. We have come to expect very little from anything in the area. This place is par for the area. Slapped together diner food, not terrible, but cheap and right out of the freezer, far from something we would return for. I had the French Dip and it was ok. Microwave hot, but ok. Wifey had the Chicken Fried steak, have never seen one with brown gravy, but that's how they roll. Was pretty bad, her best comment was "I kept it down". Our next visit to the area, will stick to the drive through fast food, you should too.

The vintage inn (family restaurant) We walked in with an open mind but that quickly changed....all the matrin did was grab menus and set them on the closest table and told us to sit there...then we waited twenty mintutes after sitting ..just for her to bring us watered down weak coffee and metallic tasing water. She took our order , rubbin and sweet potato fries for my husband and a breakfast meal for myself.... 10 minutes go by and she brings our food...there menue said never frozen...bull.... the only thing that they didnt screw up was the type of jam they put out .... his rubbin was the most lazyest rubbin i had ever seen and it tasted rotten....the sweet potato fries were soft...like over cooked soft... My "eggs" one egg really....no flavor Burt hasbrowns and two very small sassaged that tasted like the frozen food section of Walmart... I asked for a soda and yet another thing....saverly waterd down soda.... No stars if i could The waitress was the same who seated us.. horibble manners...and a smug attitude We will not be returning Anither one we told our conserns to helpped us out and even took the bad food and drinks off the bill.

Highway close and open early, everything I needed as I entered the 17th hour of my all night drive from Southern California to Vancouver, Washington. The bonus was a friendly staff and some really good food. I have a weakness for biscuits and gravy, you could call it an all consuming fetish, I certainly do. When I come across a new place like this I absolutely must be their judge, jury and potential executioner solely based on the biscuits and gravy. Fair? No, but it's my fetish, I make the rules. In this case I rule that their biscuits and gravy are above average! I like the big chunks of sausage in the gravy and the additional bonus of another meat sprinkled over the top (of course I picked bacon!!!). The hash browns were excellent, not greasy and cooked perfectly. I cannot tell you about lunch or dinner, but I did notice a salad bar set up and that bodes well. If you are cruising I-5 either on the way to or from California or Coos Bay you could certainly do yourself a favor and stop off at the Vintage for some good food and service.

In Cottage Grove, just off I-5, your food choices are a handful of fast food joints and the Vintage Inn - a typical dive diner that caters to truckers and senior citizens. On this night, we decided to abstain from fast food and try the diner, knowing full well that this wasn't going to be a top notch establishment. Decor and "ambience" was exactly what we expected - food quality mediocre, as expected. Flies in the dining room, hairs in the food (two of them), disgusting bathrooms, peeling wallpaper that revealed mildew and mold. Food was warm and server was friendly, but there's virtually no chance we'll ever go back to the Vintage Inn.

I don't know who gave this restaurant 2 stars but they way over rated it. My wife and I have been to the Vintage Inn a couple of times. We ate there a few months ago and the food was pretty good as was the service. We live here in Cottage Grove and it was our understanding that the Vintage Inn was under new ownership, so rather than go to a place like Carl's Jr. or Jack in the Box we thought we would go and support a family owned restaurant. This is how our experience went. We were greeted by a nice young lady that seated us but would not look us in the eye. She asked if she could get us something to drink but still would not make eye contact. We looked on the menu and we ordered cheeseburgers. It did not dawn on me that the menu did not give a description as to what came on the cheeseburger. But anyway my wife and I sat there for a long time. We waited more than the waitress did all night. When our food finally arrived a 1/2 hour later, the next question was can I get you anything else (again without eye contact), I said does this have mayo? The server said to me no it has 1000 island. I don't care for 1000 island, but I can live with it on my cheeseburger. So, I asked if I could have some ketchup and mustard. So again I waited and waited, and waited. I got up and went to another table and got my own ketchup. I was about to take my last couple of bites when the mustard finally showed up. Besides all of this wonderful service the food was stale and lukewarm at best. The onion rings I ordered were under cooked and greasy. My wife's fries were cold, and the cheese on the burgers was paper thin. I have been in Greasy Spoon Restaurants that put out better food than the Vintage Inn. Awful...stay away. Just horrible, plain and simple. I had the reuben sandwich with onion rings: ghastly overcooked flavorless hideous. Dirty lifeless dreary experience. Avoid , avoid, avoid and avoid.

We stopped here because it didn't look like the typical chain restaurant, figuring the food must be good. The coffee was very weak. The syrup for the pancakes was so watered down I could only taste sugar instead of the usual artificial maple flavoring. My pancakes got so soggy from the syrup they turned to mush. We really should have done ourselves a favor and gone to McDonald's instead.

I've only eaten here once but I got my food in less than 5 minutes and it was scrum-diddly-umptious. The waitress was a genuine sweet heart. Next time skip the McDonald's and Burger King and satisfy your "munchie" crave at "The Village Inn." Open 24 hours, every day. Tell them, Eman sent you. Just kidding. Used to be a great place .. really family oriented and great home cookin!! NOW, it's awful! My husband got a ham and eggs breakfast. The ham was NOT a ham steak but was 2 super thin slices of ham. The thinner than deli ham, the thin kind that you roll! The toast was thick and drenched in 'butter oil'. Trade the size of the toast for the ham and that would make it worth the price ( which is was about 10.00). I had the senior 5 oz steak dinner. Ordered medium rare. It came (both meals served 20 minutes after our order was taken) My entire meal was cold. Cold corn, corn potatoes and cold WELL DONE dry steak. I decided to try to eat the steak and I just couldn't. So I had to flag down a waitress (ours never checked on us), who in turn hollered across the room at our waitress. Our waitress was busy talking with the cook at the counter. She came over and said what's the problem, I told her about the steak. She took the steak and showed it to the cook was still hanging out at the counter, he rolled his eyes a bit and an older waitress told him to cook a new one. I was given a new steak in just a few minutes - charred on the outside and almost raw on the inside so I was not confident that the steak was served in good faith. Took it home to the dog. Scary stories about what cooks can do to your food if you complain - that is this place !! Such a shame because it used to be really good. NEVER AGAIN !! 9/22/15 1:30pm

Came for breakfast and had waffle, eggs, sausage with coffee. The syrup was even warm! It was good, the service excellent and it wasn't pricey. The place was clean and easy parking. Will be back.

Stopped here for lunch instead the usual fast food and made a good choice. The small salad bar was fresh with quality items and the turkey soup was homemade and delicious! All you can eat soup salad beat French fry joints any day. My daughter had a great turkey club and the server was extremely friendly and polite. I'd stop here again anytime.

I'm disappointed with how unrealistic the reviews are about this restaurant. I love this place and have been coming here for years. The food and decor has only gotten better since the new owners took over. If you want good food with home cooked appeal; this is the place! The chicken fried steak is so big and delicious here I can't order it any where else and get the same size or quality! There aren't enough restaurants that bake so much of their own food like they do at The Vintage inn. The biscuits they make are super fresh and fluffy. They make the most amazing pies. The cheeseburger soup is so unbelievably good I had to come back again the next day after trying it the first time. The waitstaff is friendly and accommodating and to top it off; the prices aren't bad either. I have no idea what these other reviewers are talking about. The building may be old, but the food is always hot and fresh. I've eaten here dozens of times and have never had a bad experience!

The burgers are great! Big Patty. Clam chowder is good. Server was nice! We were told this place was just bought buy the horrible IHOP we just left due to bad experience! Hope iHOP's bad service doesn't rub off here!! Overall, good experience here :)

Stopped in for a quick lunch and left feeling as if I just licked a huge salt block! Ordered a hot beef sandwich, which at best, was a luke warm one. Sandwich was smothered in awful salt gravy, canned mushy corn and potatoes that had a slight tang to them. Coffee was cold and service a bit slow. If you're stopping in, make sure you don't eat salt for a week after. Recommendation off the menu... Water, that seemed ok.

I remember going here years ago and it was a heck of a lot better than it was the other day! What happened? I felt like I was served dog food, or better yet the food from your neighbor Mcd's! I don't even eat that garb!! I think it's safe to say I won't be back for this dog food, and no my Princess won't get your food either as I'm sure she will turn her snooty nose up at your food as well!!

Waitress seems attentive. After reading reviews, I am a bit concerned. Waiting for food. Family of 5's variety of orders should provide plenty of opportunity to determine star quality...food not bad, except DO NOT order anything with fries or hashbrowns. Potatoes are gross. I used to live here long ago and this restaurant was fairly good then. One of the original owners Bill Whitman (RIP), he would turn over in his grave to see what it has become now. We just ate there again the other day on a trip going past this area and the food was horrible and not only that the portions have shrunk by half. Get this, they now use salad size plates now for main dinner entrees when they use to use the big oval dinner plates. My wife and I couldn't believe it. Is this your niche market Vintage? You think you'll gain repeat business by reducing portions and serving cold yucky food? I understand it's under new ownership, and having family in California in the restaurant business I can tell you this is being done wrong on so many levels. The service, if you can believe it, was terrible as well.

This was a great surprise on my way back to Portland from San Francisco! I wasn't very sure at first but once I bit into my crispy hash browns and tasted the great hollandaise sauce that was generously poured over my soft poached, perfectly cooked eggs, I was convinced that everything else was good. Sure enough! I came with a group of 5 and the fried chicken is awesome, crispy, flavorful, and just straight out addicting. The clam chowder is creamy and delicious, the bacon fried to perfection! I will be stopping by again. I recommend this place highly if you're looking for great diner food! Oh and the service is great! Warm and friendly environment great for everyone. My experience has been thoroughly enjoyable, the bad reviews must have been a bad case of wrong place, wrong time. I'm glad I took a chance! It's the only way to live life!

Welp, I feel a bit like that deadove.jpg picture. Like I looked on Yelp, and it told me that the bag called Vintage Inn contained a dead dove. And then I went and opened that bag, it did indeed contain a dead dove. "What did I expect?" The Vintage Inn is mediocre at best. I went for an egg salad sandwich, which did have nice, large chunks of egg in it, and the bread was thick and flavorful, but somehow it all got a bit too soggy. The moist bread plus all the mayo (extra spread on the slices, eww) just turned into paste in the middle. I ended up scraping it all off and putting it on my Texas Toast. Speaking of which, the Texas Toast was the exact same bread, only toasted with garlic butter/oil on one side. The other side is untoasted, which is rather unappetizing. Anyway, the decor is very dated, the food consists of mediocre renditions of dining staples, and there's really nothing to especially recommend the Vintage Inn, though the service was friendly. I wouldn't go back. PS: Okay, there was ONE cool thing: All dinner entrees come with free ice cream. Which is that super old-fashioned rainbow sorbet that comes from enormous buckets. I watched with fascination as an older man, sitting at the diner bar, ate his large cup of sorbet, straight out of the 1950s. I'll admit, I was a little bit jealous.

I had dinner here on 4/27 with my wife and her cousin. It was late on a Sunday night and there were not many dining options close to the Comfort Inn where we were staying. We were looking for a basic meal, having just driven from San Francisco. Quickly reading the recent yelp reviews, I was a bit wary, but the Vintage Inn was strongly recommended by the Comfort Inn staff. I'd rate Service 2, Ambience 2 and Food 1. We ordered simple food: clam chowder with corn muffins, and a quesadilla. The clam chowder was overly salty, had undercooked/hard potatoes, and the corn muffins tasted funny, as if some ingredient was rancid. The server appeared to be inexperienced. He served the chowder before the quesadilla was even submitted to the kitchen, so the chowder got cold before the quesadilla finally arrived. He seemed anxious to please, but not sure of how to be a good server. The decor is tired and in need of being refreshed. Overall, an excellent candidate for Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible.

Great stop off I-5. Quick and friendly service. I had good chili with an enormous piece of corn bread. My dinner partner has a bacon and cheese omelette with hash browns and pancakes. We mentioned to our waterless that we were trying to get to California tonight and she brought us big to-go coffees on our way out the door :) Breakfast served all day.

As a tired a weary traveller, I stopped at this quaint abode, in hopes of some hot coffee and some home-cooked cuisine. The following events are entirely true. 1. My coffee came with a side of flies. There was a fly in it. It was a rather large fly. I wouldn't have known but as soon as I was about to take a sip, it ascended to the surface. Sort of like a Jesus-fly, except it didn't make it to Heaven - just the top of the liquid and didn't come back to life. I don't know fly CPR, so there was very little I could do during this frustrating ordeal. 2. New coffee came and I was relieved, but a bit put off. As I open a little creamer, I attempted to pour it in my coffee, but it wouldn't come out. It wasn't frozen, it had completely turned to sour cream. Generally restaurants like this turn over coffee and cream rather quickly, so I was baffled as to why I was lucky enough to have been served fly-coffee with a side of depression-era dairy. When asked if I wanted something else, I considered raw chicken with a side of blowfish, which I figured may be the safest thing served that day. However, I simply read the fly his last rites. He did not die in vain.

Two stars because the waitress was nice and attentive. The food was deplorable. Everything on our plates had recently been frozen, and the salad bar was full of old vegetables - limp lettuce, clumpy cheese, liquified cucumbers. The people next to us had some decent-looking sandwiches, so maybe if you're forced in here at gunpoint I was go with that option...?

Never again!! The waitress was nice and service was ok....but the food was mediocre at best. The worst part - the reason this gets a 1 star is that the restaurant is FILTHY. I have never been in such a filthy restaurant before. We sat in a booth next to a window. The walls had food splattered all over it. The vertical blinds had old food caked on them...dirty fingerprints all over them...utterly disgusting. Made me wonder what the kitchen looked like. What did the grill look like? It wasn't easy eating the meal when it arrived as the filthiness had managed to completely turn my stomach. I would suggest not eating here if there is still nasty dried food and filth on the walls and vertical blinds next to your booth. We were just thankful we didn't get food poisoning as we were on our way to Seattle from Redding, CA.

Not sure why there are so many poor reviews except that many are from 3 yrs ago. I like to stop in The Vintage Inn when I'm in this area. I've eaten here probably 6 times in the last 1.5 yrs & I've always had a good experience. It reminds me of Shari's or IHOP, but without the institutional feel. The Chicken Ole Omelet is tasty & filling. Coffee is great & rarely will you find you cup close to empty. The Service is fast & friendly. Clean, comfortable, & tasty! Give this place a shot & judge for yourself :-)

This use to be okay, even though we did wonder what the kitchen might look like after seeing the bathrooms, but last night was ridiculous. Got menu's & coffee delivered right away...and then the wait was on. There were only two other tables occupied. We waited....and waited, but were seemingly invisible. But, we had a good long time to look at the menu which we felt was way over priced for what it is, and who would want syrup with pancakes, or how about some dressing for your salad. Nope, if you want that, you'll either have to get it yourself, bring your own, or stand on the top of the table and scream, because no one will think to bring it and no one will notice you except maybe the other angry customers. I don't know if there is new management or what, but it didn't use to be this way. We won't be going back. I'll be surprised if this place manages to keep it's doors open.

I wrote a short story about eating here again, simply titled "Nope!" You should totally read it. Also, you should totally go to Buster's or the Backstage Bakery if you're looking for good breakfast or lunch in CG. Fun bonus: the bathrooms at the Vintage Inn are normally disgusting!

Congratulations, Vintage Inn. You've managed to receive the rare ONE star, way to go. Our first warning sign was the homeless man holding a sign right on the edge of the property reading "Only $2,449 away from a Mercedes Benz". We should have turned around right there, but instead, we were starving and this place looked like a comfy family place to take a load off and eat some down home food. The second warning sign was a real warning sign: a piece of paper taped to the front doors; something to the affect that the Vintage Inn wouldn't be open 24 hrs on some near date because of a scheduled cleaning. In hindsight this now makes sense and I'm ashamed that I didn't heed the voice in my head telling us to scram. We were seated immediately, under a rather large wall of black & white photos depicting various senior citizens, apparently enjoying the Vintage Inn's fabulous "cuisine". There were also vintage stains all over the wall, like when you drop a fork or a noodle will sometimes fling a little sauce, only times a hundred, like the wall was never cleaned. I ordered the cod and chips (with baked potato), the wife ordered a Reuben, and the little one got the standard grilled cheese, fries with ranch and apple juice. Right on cue, our 3 yr old declared she needed to use the restroom. Upon returning, my wife told me the women's restrooms were filthy. This was the third warning sign but alas, now it was too late to turn back. Our food arrived fairly quickly. I'll keep this part short. The cod was way overcooked in old crunchy dark batter, and the Reuben had no thousand island (!?). The baked potato was so small I felt bad eating it, like it needed a chance at life and to grow big. We finished about 1/2 our food and decided to leave. As I was paying, the head cook was complaining to an older lady whom I'm assuming was owner or manager. "You gotta tell her to stop" he says. "She keeps talking dirty to my dishwasher, and I won't stand for it!". The wife and kid went out to the car and I decided to use the facilities before heading back out on I-5. As I walked past the kitchen area, I noticed a large 3x3' hole had been cut into the kitchen door, with a box fan duct taped over the hole. You could see through the slats in the fan into the kitchen area. What I saw made me want to vomit. The floor! It was covered in food and garbage, oh it was nasty! There was a cart sitting in there with old nasty crusty food all over it. I proceeded into the restroom and the first thing I noticed was the urinal with the super dark pee in there, like it hadn't been flushed in a week. When I was done, I didn't touch anything, didn't wash my hands, and kicked the door open. I used hand sanitizer in the car, and that homeless guy was still out there, perhaps a dollar closer to a new Mercedes.

The service was speedy, but I think the most of the staff was cranked up, except the one who, in a prone position, was catching a few z's on the naugahyde bench at the entrance! The ladies room was FILTHY, something really, really bad happened in there! It was a late night visit and a few Cottage Grove HS winter formal attendees arrived and the server handled them well. The food was so-so, breakfast food. This place is an "institution" to some, my son-in-law included, who have frequented this establishment for years while traveling the I-5 and they like it just fine. There is a lot of potential here. Hopefully it will be realized soon.
